Our team cares for sheep and produces specialized antibodies used in diagnostic tests that help doctors diagnose and monitor human diseases, including blood cancers. Based at our USDA-registered sheep farm and laboratory, our work brings together animal care, laboratory activities, and biological production in a unique rural Vermont setting.

We are currently seeking a full-time, 40-hour-per-week Animal Care Technician – Lab Operations to join our team. You don’t need to be a scientist to get started. As an Animal Care Technician – Lab Operations, you will play an important role in the production of high-quality antisera while helping care for the animals that make this work possible. You will support a variety of hands-on animal, laboratory, and production activities while following established quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

This position also supports research and development and design control activities as needed, giving you exposure to both routine production work and the science behind our products. You will work closely with a collaborative team while helping ensure our processes consistently meet company and regulatory standards.

Starting Pay Rate: $25

Sign on Bonus: $2000

A Day in the Life

No two days are exactly the same in this hands-on role. You’ll work with both our animals and laboratory processes to support the production of high-quality antisera.

In this role, you will:

• Provide daily care for our sheep, including feeding, watering, bedding, and routine mucking
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized farm and laboratory environment
• Work collaboratively with the team to support animal welfare, product quality, and production needs
• Assist with weekly animal sorting and other production activities
• Maintain accurate and complete records
• Process antisera and support day-to-day production activities
• Collect blood through plasmapheresis procedures
• Administer antigens and perform test bleeds

Keys to Success

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Experience

• Experience working on a farm and/or with livestock
• Experience working in a laboratory environment

• A valid driver’s license
• A dependable, reliable approach to your work
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate recordkeeping
• Good communication and organizational skills
• Comfort working both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt as needs change throughout the day

• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• A willingness to learn and contribute in a hands-on, team-oriented environment

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position that combines work on a working sheep farm with laboratory and production activities. Candidates should be comfortable:

• Working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
• Adapting to the changing and sometimes unpredictable nature of working with animals
• Lifting up to approximately 50 pounds
• Performing physical activities including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, and turning
• Walking and working on uneven, wet, or slippery surfaces
• Working scheduled weekends as part of the team’s animal care and production responsibilities

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Vermont is $21.00–$23.00.
