Job Title: Commercial Truck Driving (CDL) Program Director Agency: Columbus Technical College Job Requisition ID: JR0000002883 Shift: Not Applicable (United States of America) Job Description: Columbus Technical College is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to serve as Program Director for the Commercial Truck Driving program. Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Program Director provides leadership and coordination for the Commercial Truck Driving program and its faculty. This individual will be responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction, effective program administration, student success, regulatory compliance, workforce alignment, and continuous program improvement. The successful candidate will provide leadership for classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel training and will maintain strong relationships with employers, industry partners, and other stakeholders to ensure the program prepares students for successful entry into the commercial transportation industry. This is a full-time/exempt position. This position will require the following physical abilities: Sit, stand, walk, bend, push, and pull for (3) to (4) continuous hours, or longer at times in various indoor and outdoor working conditions Must be able to get underneath trucks and trailers to demonstrate part locations to students Must be able to walk along beside the truck during range maneuvers. Please note the following information regarding this position: May require teaching on or off campus throughout our service delivery area (Muscogee County, Stewart County, Quitman County, Chattahoochee County, Harris County, and Talbot County) May require travel Will require teaching morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend classes Responsibilities: Provide effective classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel instruction in Commercial Truck Driving/CDL operations Teach students the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for safe operation of commercial motor vehicles Provide instruction in vehicle inspection, basic vehicle systems, safe operating procedures, defensive driving, trip planning, cargo handling, and other applicable CDL competencies Demonstrate and evaluate proper vehicle control, backing maneuvers, coupling and uncoupling procedures, turning, shifting, braking, lane positioning, and other required driving skills Prepare students for successful completion of applicable CDL knowledge and skills testing Develop and deliver instructional materials in accordance with TCSG curriculum standards, course outlines, program objectives, and applicable regulatory requirements Provide instruction consistent with applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements and Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) CDL requirements Provides leadership, supervision, and support to full-time and adjunct faculty assigned to the Commercial Truck Driving program Ensures faculty adhere to established work schedules, instructional assignments, office hours, attendance requirements, and college policies and procedures Observes, evaluates, and documents the effectiveness of full-time and adjunct faculty in accordance with college procedures Provide timely and appropriate feedback to students regarding academic, technical, and driving performance Maintain accurate attendance, student progress, grading, and instructional records in accordance with college and TCSG requirements Maintain a safe and professional training environment during classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel instruction Coordinates faculty recruitment and hiring in collaboration with Academic Affairs and Human Resources and verifies faculty qualifications in accordance with applicable college and TCSG requirements Inspect training vehicles and equipment before and after use and immediately report mechanical, safety, or maintenance concerns Maintain current knowledge of CDL regulations, commercial transportation practices, safety requirements, and industry standards Assist with student recruitment, retention, completion, and job placement initiatives Communicate effectively with program faculty, staff, administrators, industry partners, testing personnel, and other stakeholders Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, orientation, training, and other college activities as required Utilize general computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, learning management systems, and other instructional technology platforms Demonstrate strong time management, organization, communication, observation, supervision, and evaluation skills Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent State of Georgia Class A Commercial Driver's License A minimum of three (3) years of recent, verifiable commercial driving experience **7-year Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) as supporting documentation of Georgia Class A CDL license will be required for those interviewed.** Preferred Qualifications: A certificate in Commercial Truck Driving, occupation-related college coursework, specialized training directly related to the courses taught, or demonstrated competence gained through relevant work experience and/or other demonstrated competencies and achievements Prior experience providing CDL, commercial driving, workforce development, technical education, or industry training Previous instructional experience in a postsecondary, adult education, workforce development, or industry training environment Experience preparing students for CDL knowledge and skills examinations Experience with commercial driver training involving classroom, range, and behind-the #J-18808-Ljbffr State of Georgia
