Overview KIPP Memphis Public Schools is part of KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program), a national network of tuition‑free, open‑enrollment, public schools that help students from educationally underserved communities develop the knowledge, skills, character, and habits needed to succeed in college and beyond. Founded in 2002, we serve over 1,200 K‑12 students in three North Memphis schools and almost 900 alumni on their college journeys through our KIPP Forward Program. Subject STEM Job Description Reporting to the Principal, KIPP teachers deliver effective, high‑quality, rigorous instruction in their content areas, promoting a college‑preparatory culture and ensuring all students achieve academic success. Teachers also perform additional duties as necessary to support the school’s community. Plan a program of study and unit, weekly, and daily lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with best practices, specific content knowledge, and the needs and capabilities of the students. Implement the region’s philosophy, the KIPP curriculum, and instructional goals and objectives. Utilize diagnostic assessment tools to identify learning strengths and needs, for intervention and/or acceleration toward academic and leadership standards. Take necessary precautions to assure safety in the classroom and school for all students. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulations. Assist the administrative team in implementing all policies governing student life and conduct. Make provisions for availability to students and parents outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues. Actively engage in all professional development opportunities. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Requirements Required Active Tennessee state licensure and certification – endorsement matching subject area and grade band. Commitment to working with educationally underserved students. Commitment to the design and development of the school. Bachelor’s degree. Preferred At least two years of teaching experience. Master’s in education or teaching content area. Experience/strength in content area/Highly Qualified status. Experience teaching in an urban school and/or charter network. ADA Requirements Prolonged standing and actively monitoring student behavior while teaching. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Ability to traverse classroom and adjust height by bending or leaning to teach each child. Ability to facilitate classroom transitions by walking through hallways and up and down stairs with students.
