About the Position

Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (06:45 - 19:15) Experience: 2 years of experience required License: Current Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS required, CPI preferred Must-Have: First-time travelers accepted Charge nurse experience preferred for night shift travelers Description: This position is for a Medical Surgical Registered Nurse. The nurse will be responsible for providing care to adults and geriatric patients with general medical/surgical diagnoses. The average daily census is approximately 43 patients. The position involves a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:6. Call may be required as needed. The nurse will be expected to float to similar units and alternate care locations as necessary. Nurses will be required to work every other weekend and holidays. Contract staff may be assigned to work on the Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. During catastrophic events or disasters, staff may be required to report to work. All staff are required to attend unit team meetings. Meetings are scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each month from January through October. In November and December, meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of the month. Additional meetings for night shift staff will be conducted on the Friday immediately following the Wednesday meetings. Nurses will be responsible for managing heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, and high flow oxygen. Limited short-term BiPAP support may be needed occasionally, with no additional training required. The position is suitable for all medical/surgical nurses as no PCU level patients are cared for in this unit. Candidates must be able to adhere to call-off policies. Nurses must have a teamwork approach and meet behavioral expectations in all patient and staff interactions. CPI certification is preferred but not mandatory.
