Project Manager - Civil Engineering


An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of civil engineering projects from pre-construction through to completion. This role will suit a motivated professional with strong commercial awareness, excellent organisational skills and a proven record of managing projects safely, on time and within budget.


You will take responsibility for coordinating project activities, managing internal and external stakeholders and ensuring that all works are delivered to the required technical, contractual and quality standards. Projects may include infrastructure, highways, utilities, groundworks or other civil engineering schemes, depending on experience.

Key responsibilities

• Manage projects from planning and mobilisation through to handover and final account.
• Prepare and monitor programmes, budgets, forecasts and project documentation.
• Coordinate site teams, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and client representatives.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Monitor progress, identify risks and implement effective mitigation plans.
• Review designs, specifications, method statements and technical submissions.
• Manage variations, valuations, procurement and commercial reporting in collaboration with the commercial team.
• Lead regular progress meetings and provide clear updates to senior stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records and support the successful completion, commissioning and handover of works.

About you


You will have substantial experience in project management within the civil engineering or construction sector, together with a strong understanding of construction methods, contract administration and health and safety legislation. A relevant degree, HNC, HND or equivalent professional experience is desirable. Qualifications such as PRINCE2, APM or an equivalent project management accreditation would be advantageous.


Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. You should be confident working with technical information, budgets and project management software, and be willing to travel to project sites as required.
