Job Overview The Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist – 7/7 Nightshift – OLGMC position at Ochsner Health System is responsible for receiving, preparing, and testing patient specimens and maintaining laboratory quality, equipment, and confidentiality standards. Job Responsibilities Receive and prepare specimens according to standard protocols and procedures. Perform laboratory tests and calculations to provide data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Conduct quality‑control procedures and evaluate test performance and results. Calibrate, maintain, and monitor equipment used in analytical determinations. Perform phlebotomy procedures as appropriate. Maintain confidentiality of patient‑related information. Escalate out‑of‑control results and document corrective actions. Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, accreditation standards, safety guidelines, and proficiency testing protocols. Participate in performance‑improvement opportunities, manage supply and reagent inventory, and support business‑development initiatives. Adapt communication style to the specific patient population and maintain professional interactions. Requirements Education : Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science. Transcript required. Certifications : • Current Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license in the state of practice (or Generalist Trainee permit or Lab Assistant license) and must obtain the Generalist license within 90 days of hire. • ASCP, AMT, or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist obtained within 90 days; if working at an academic medical center, ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information; proficiency with Windows applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills to present information clearly and professionally. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Good judgment in performing duties and resolving conflicts. Excellent interpersonal skills. Physical and Environmental Demands Heavy work: Exerting 50–100 pounds of force occasionally, 25–50 pounds frequently, and 10–20 pounds constantly. Requires routine exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, hazardous medications, and waste. Occupational risk of communicable diseases.
