Retail Store Manager

PetSmart Retail Store Manager PetSmart’s Store Leader has leadership oversight of the safety of people and pets, pet parent experience, operational execution, financial outcomes, and all human resource functions within all areas of the store. This role provides exemplary leadership by driving the company culture and strategies, achieving targeted results, championing exceptional pet parent service and efficient execution of the store’s daily business while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy within the store. Essential Responsibilities People Leadership Responsible for employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and terminating. Builds an open‑door culture by engaging and listening to associates and leveraging the Voice of Associate tool. Accountable for creating and posting the schedule for the store, facilitating associate development, and delivering timely reviews. Delegates effectively, empowers others, and drives associate engagement and accountability. Cascades information to associates and adjusts priorities to meet goals. Address and administer associate complaints, grievances, and celebrations. Ensures all associate reviews are delivered on time. Overall Store Experience Leads the associate and pet parent experience, ensuring pets in care are safe and healthy. Manages pet parent experience across phone, in‑store, and online channels, handling escalated concerns. Creates a store environment focused on exceptional, positive experiences. Evaluates operations, continuously improving processes and services. Partners with local adoption groups and leads in‑store and community events. Maintains store standards, leading a culture of empowerment and compliance with policies and code of ethics. Conducts monthly Core and Services Walks and reviews in‑store cameras for safety and compliance. Ensures a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents, and maintains inventory levels. Communicates business and financial objectives to leaders. Reports when a sick/injured pet is identified, arranging transport to a vet as needed. Shares responsibility for store opening and closing procedures. Business Management Delivers corporate strategy and profitability goals, executing leadership direction. Analyzes root causes, responds to reporting across all areas, and creates improvement plans. Identifies growth opportunities, recognizes business successes, and holds associates accountable for sales and shrink targets. Manages expenses such as labor and supplies and other relevant store metrics. Submits store related work orders and purchase card allocations. Creates and posts schedules and processes payroll weekly. Executes daily, weekly and monthly reporting and paperwork as required by the Company. Runs store related errands to support store needs. Qualifications 4-6 years of retail leadership or customer‑focused experience. Full‑time availability with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Proficiency in computer applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Physical Demands and Work Environment Requires standing, walking, climbing a ladder, and using hands to handle, feel, hold, write; reaches with hands and arms, stoops, kneels, crouches, talks and hears. Requires frequent lifting or moving up to 50 pounds; occasionally team lifting more than 100 pounds. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environment, moderate-to-high noise, and live animals.
