Have you been seeking a workplace where you can build a long-term career, using your good heart and strong skills to enrich life for those who need you most? As a Special Education Teacher , you’ll do the meaningful work of optimizing the quality of life for individuals with autism by creating a nurturing, structured learning environment that promotes learning while helping students feel supported and capable. By designing and delivering highly customized instruction grounded in evidence-based practices, you’ll not only work to make strides toward IEP goals, but you’ll help cultivate the deep sense of self in each student that catalyzes progress for years to come. Whatever the combination of developmental, communication, social-emotional, and academic needs might look like for each young person, you and a collaborative interdisciplinary team will have the privilege of shaping positive future outcomes. This is purpose ‑ driven work that aligns with the values which probably inspired you to enter this profession in the first place. Here, you can turn your compassion into action and make a profoundly meaningful impact. You’ll also get to be a leader, harnessing the power of technology and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles while guiding your professional team, facilitating meetings, linking related service initiatives to classroom programs, along with coaching and supervising all Teacher’s Aides and Assistants. And as part of our team at Anderson, you will also have the chance to flourish outside of your role at school. Robust benefits, generous time off, retirement plans with employer contributions, and career advancement pathways await; many come to Anderson for an opportunity and stay for decades! What You Will Do as a Special Education Teacher:- You will create a supportive, engaging, and structured learning environment where individuals with autism can learn, grow, discover, and thrive.
- You will conduct ongoing formal and informal assessments of student abilities and needs, aligning your findings with IEP goals and instructional interventions, and adjusting as needed.
- You will develop and maintain evidence-based educational systems and instructional programs to promote classroom management and a strong classroom learning environment.
- You will lead the professional team and provide direct supervision and guidance to Teachers Aides and Assistants.
- You will demonstrate excellent time management skills, maintaining high standards for organization and management of materials, equipment, paperwork, and schedules.
- You will prepare, deliver, and assess individual and group instruction on a daily basis.
- You will develop and evaluate results in the context of student IEP goals and objectives, and conduct training for other team members when needed so that skills can be generalized.
- You will utilize behavioral supports to drive student learning and skills development success.
- You will help cultivate a collaborative, cohesive classroom team experience focused on actively addressing student learning, communication, social skills, and behavioral needs.
- You will help create a culture of unconditional positive regard that maximizes strengths while effectively navigating any challenges that arise, and ultimately do what you can to optimize student learning success and confidence.
What You Can Bring to the Team:
- Dependability, compassion, integrity, patience, adaptability, perseverance, and a genuine belief that students deserve a classroom environment where they feel safe and valued.
- Strong communication, organizational, collaborative, interpersonal, teaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Deep understanding of evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis practices, neurodiversity-affirming frameworks, and sensory sensitivities.
- Alignment with our mission and values.
- In addition, we expect that you:
- Hold a Bachelor’s or Master's degree with New York State Initial/Professional Certification in Special Education/Students with Disabilities.
- Are able to perform and assist in agency crisis intervention procedures.
