Principal Geotechnical / Dams Engineer – Phoenix, AZ. Job Description AECOM is soliciting a Principal Geotechnical/Dams Engineer for its Phoenix, AZ. office. The incumbent will lead geotechnical engineering projects, oversee field investigations, and provide technical support and business development for dams and related infrastructure. Responsibilities Lead the Geotechnical Engineering Team as a Principal Engineer. Plan and oversee field exploration, characterization, and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials. Provide technical support to dams Project Managers in design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance. Provide project management support as Deputy Project Manager: client management, contract management, planning and execution, and financial management. Oversee slope stability and seepage analyses and design slope‑stabilization measures for dams, spillways, and levees. Oversee dam construction activities. Supervise preparation of technical reports, independent dam safety inspections, and potential failure‑mode analyses. Conduct independent technical reviews. Mentor and develop junior staff. Drive business development for existing and new clients. Ensure the quality of project deliverables. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: BA/BS +8 years related experience or equivalent. Professional Engineer’s license (PE). Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering. 8+ years experience with dam projects, including inspection, rehabilitation, new design, and construction. PE registration in Arizona. 15+ years of experience. Knowledge of relevant building code provisions. Strong commitment to ensuring safe project execution. Local travel required. Experience with local permitting jurisdictions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
