POSITION: Student and Family Engagement Specialist (Teacher Group) LOCATION: Starkweather Academy JOB REQUIREMENTS: - Valid Michigan Teaching Certification - Master's Degree Preferred - Experience in group facilitation and/or training - Proven ability to build and leverage relationships with diverse audiences and partners - Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation plans in fast-moving, changeable environments - Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills - Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google docs, and interest in and ability to learn new platforms JOB DESCRIPTION: The Student and Family Engagement Specialist will provide a wide-range of academic and social-emotional services for students and their families. The Student and Family Engagement Specialist will collaborate with other members of the school community to facilitate academic support, training, engagement opportunities, and goal setting with students and families. They will also collaborate with the department of teaching and learning, family engagement team, counselors, instructional staff, families, district and school leaders, administrators, and others to identify the support needed for students and families. Essential Job Responsibilities: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities and/or duties required; other duties may be assigned. Data-Driven Interventions & Systemic Support (MTSS/EWIMS)- Build programs and systems based on the review of data to support the needs of the students and families in our demographic groups. - Actively participate on the EWIMS (Early Warning Intervention and Monitoring System) team and provide comprehensive MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) support to identify and assist at-risk students. - Utilize the Panorama platform for intervention tracking and monitoring to ensure student progress and successful outcomes. - Provide support and connect with wrap-around services based on student and family needs as identified by data. - Maintain accurate documentation of communication, identified needs, and support provided. Direct Student Monitoring, Environment & Academics - Conduct regular attendance monitoring and implement targeted interventions to improve school-wide student attendance and engagement. - Oversee online learning lab monitoring to ensure students remain on task and receive the academic support required in non-traditional environments. - Provide logistical and proctoring testing support during school, district, and state assessments. - Manage the Champions incentive program to ensure designated students receive mentored guidance and accountability. Post-Secondary Pathways & Alumni Relations - Coordinate post-graduation pathways planning by bringing in guest speakers, scheduling field trips, and arranging master classes on a quarterly basis to expose students to various career and college options. - Oversee Xello platform management to guide students through career exploration, academic planning, and future goal setting. - Provide comprehensive staff training and ongoing support on how to best guide and support their student caseloads using the information, interests, and goals students have designated in their Educational Development Plans (EDPs) and the Xello platform. - Analyze EDP and Xello data to intentionally tailor field trips, master classes, and career opportunities, proactively prescribing and assigning specific students to attend events that directly align with their documented results and interests. - Establish an alumni tracking system and arrange for former students to return for presentations and guest speaking panels at the school. Family, Community, & School Engagement - Develop and execute programs and initiatives to enhance services and strengthen relationships between school and home. - Research, collect, organize, and coordinate resource materials and activities to facilitate family involvement. - Develop and lead family academy sessions, which are content-based and research-based. - Make personal contacts through a variety of modalities (electronic, face-to-face, home visits, etc.) to encourage family engagement. - Conceptualize, design, and deliver assistance and training to advance family, school, and community engagement. - Plan, coordinate, and execute quarterly reward celebrations for students to recognize and incentivize academic and behavioral achievements. - Build and maintain strategic community partnerships with local businesses, equity, and education-focused organizations to expand opportunities available to families. - Work with the team from the Department of Student and Family Engagement to develop a network database of stakeholders, community leaders, business owners, and families that will provide support to district initiatives. - Create opportunities for students, families, and the school community to work together to create meaningful partnerships that ultimately lead to improved student achievement and welfare. - Support students and families from racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse communities and utilize multiple stakeholders, including school and district personnel and community resources. - Apply knowledge of the theories and strategies of high-impact, culturally responsive family engagement, parent leadership development, and community organizing, keeping up-to-date knowledge of the most recent developments in these fields. - Assist families to support student learning at home. - Provide support and technical assistance regarding technology as needed.
