Job Summary Join our team and help launch the first state psychiatric hospital in Dallas‑Fort Worth, where innovative caregivers will make a lasting impact on behavioral health in Texas. The Texas Behavioral Health Center (TBHC) is a newly completed state‑funded psychiatric hospital opening in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District that is owned by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and operated by UT Southwestern Medical Center. When fully operational, the 505,000‑square‑foot facility will house 292 beds – 200 for adult patients and 92 for children and adolescents. As DFW’s first state‑funded behavioral health hospital, it is designed to deliver state‑of‑the‑art, patient‑centered care in a modern and healing environment. The center provides comprehensive behavioral health treatment and features private patient rooms, abundant access to natural light and nature, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote recovery. The hospital will also provide training to all behavioral health disciplines. Position Overview The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be responsible for addressing patients’ primary care needs, managing chronic conditions, conducting assessments, and coordinating care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary behavioral health team. This position plays a key role in ensuring continuity of care during a critical period of stabilization and recovery. Schedule Monday‑Friday, 8‑hour shifts, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. no holidays. Ideal Candidate Strong primary care background as an APP. Experience in behavioral health or institutional settings serving the Pediatric population preferred. Comfortable working with complex and underserved patient populations. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Graduate of a Master’s degree or higher from an ARC‑PA accredited Physician Assistant program. Licenses and Certifications Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association or Red Cross, as per UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers. Job Duties Conduct and document comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status. Synthesize data and utilize evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results. Demonstrate proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training. Provide relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures. Facilitate/participate in quality‑related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings to improve clinical and system practice performance. Collaborate in research projects and protocols; routinely apply evidence‑based best practices to patient care. Perform other duties as assigned.
