Principal Machinist

Job Description Principal Machinist – Huntington Beach, CA Job Responsibilities Plan, layout, set up, and operate two or more power machine tools such as engine lathes, milling machines (jig borers, horizontal boring mills, duplicating machines) as a regular assignment. Perform machining work at the level described under the Machinist classifications for the specific power machine tools operated. Check blueprints, shop orders, and material for completeness and correctness. Determine operations to be performed, plan sequence of machining operations and machines, and use bench equipment to maximize machine capacity and minimize setups. Layout reference lines and points from detail and assembly blueprints or sketches for reference during machining operations. Compute and locate unknown dimensions on complex parts involving compound angles, radii, curvatures, or irregular shapes; adapt tooling and machining methods as required. Select, mount, and align specialized machine attachments, standard or special tooling, and cutting tools. Adjust machine speeds, feeds, and depth of cut. Check own machine setup and parts run for conformance to blueprint specifications. Grind own cutting tools (except milling cutters) and perform bench or assembly work using drill presses, bench and hand grinders, hand drills, band saws, and machinist's hand tools. This classification does not apply to any employee assigned to a specific power machine tool. Basic Qualifications Minimum of 1 year of experience working with Mastercam. Minimum of 1 year of experience working with multi‑axis Numerical Control (NC) machines. Typical Education & Experience 1+ years of relevant experience or equivalent military experience. Additional Information This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement. Shift: 1st shift. Location & Relocation Position is expected to be 100% onsite in Huntington Beach, CA. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
