Job Title: Production Labor

Job Description

This role supports brick manufacturing operations by performing a variety of physical, hands-on tasks such as blending, repacking, cutting, waxing, and hand setting brick. You will operate and monitor equipment, handle materials safely, and ensure products meet quality specifications. The position offers opportunities to work on different shifts, learn machine operation, and potentially train on forklift operation in a high-volume production environment.

Responsibilities

• Blend, repack, cut, wax, and hand set brick according to production requirements and quality standards.
• Run equipment that places banding material around straps of brick and applies cross straps on brick cubes.
• Monitor machine and strapping tool operation and assist with minor adjustments or repairs as needed.
• Lift and handle materials such as banding rolls weighing approximately 40 pounds and edge protectors weighing approximately 25 pounds to a height of about four feet.
• Perform frequent twisting, bending, and other repetitive physical movements while maintaining safe body positioning to reduce risk of injury.
• Cut the face off brick for use in display panels by placing brick from cubes or pallets onto conveyors feeding the saw.
• Observe brick as it moves from the conveyor to the saw feed belt, through the saw blade, into brick washing, and then into drying processes to ensure smooth flow.
• Take washed brick slabs and place them onto a conveyor that feeds the brick slab dryer, then remove dried slabs and place them onto carts or boxes as required.
• Inspect brick and grade it according to company specifications, including chips, cracks, size, distortion, and color range.
• Handle and move brick safely while standing for extended periods, maintaining good balance and equilibrium.
• Package brick and set brick onto kiln cars as part of general labor tasks on the first shift.
• Monitor kiln operations and operate car handling equipment on the second shift as needed.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks and basic quality control testing associated with kiln and car handling operations.
• Maintain consistent attendance and dependability to support rotating and fixed shift schedules.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to dress code requirements.
• Work a typical five-day schedule Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM on first shift, with some overtime on Saturdays and Sundays as needed.
• Work a second-shift schedule from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM on a rotating six-days-on, two-days-off pattern, including holidays, as required by production demands.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 months of previous work experience in a general labor role that required standing for long periods of time.
• Ability to perform physical work, including frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and repetitive movements such as bending and twisting.
• Capability to stand for extended periods while maintaining good balance and equilibrium.
• Comfort working in a production, warehouse, or general labor environment.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and quality specifications for inspecting and grading brick.
• Dependability and reliability to support fixed and rotating shift schedules.
• Basic mechanical aptitude to run equipment and assist with minor machine and strapping tool adjustments.
• Willingness to work overtime, including some weekends and holidays, as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in general labor, production, warehouse, packing, or inspection roles.
• Familiarity with material handling in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Interest in learning machine operation for brick production and packaging processes.
• Willingness to participate in training for forklift operation if needed.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a large production workforce.
• Comfort working in environments that may be warm in the summer and heated in the winter.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of ADEL, IA.

The pay range for this position is $17.95 - $24.44/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in ADEL,IA.
