Maintenance Mechanic

The Mechanic maintains and repairs production equipment in a large manufacturing facility, performing both emergency and scheduled maintenance on machinery used in packaging and production. This role prepares and sets up equipment for scheduled production runs, troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues, and ensures all work is completed safely and accurately documented in accordance with OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs on production equipment during active production runs to minimize downtime.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services and repairs on production equipment and machines to ensure reliable operation.
• Prepare, configure, and set up machinery for scheduled production runs according to production requirements.
• Utilize strong mechanical skills to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components on packaging and production systems.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical documentation, and work orders to determine required maintenance and repair tasks.
• Document all tasks performed on work orders, preventive maintenance records, work logs, and other required forms in a clear and accurate manner.
• Comply with OSHA safety and health rules and follow all facility safety procedures while performing maintenance and repairs.
• Work collaboratively with other maintenance mechanics to complete repairs, share knowledge, and learn additional skills on the job.
• Move throughout the facility to service production equipment wherever it is located, ensuring machines are operating safely and efficiently.
• Support production by responding promptly to equipment issues and communicating effectively with production staff about equipment status.

Essential Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on production and packaging equipment.
• At least 6 months of experience working in a production environment, auto body shop, or other maintenance-related setting.
• Ability to perform basic electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs or a willingness to learn and develop these skills.
• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical diagrams, and work orders.
• Skill in documenting maintenance activities clearly and accurately on work orders, preventive maintenance forms, and work logs.
• Understanding of and adherence to OSHA safety and health rules and facility safety policies.
• High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Technical school training in mechanics, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Welding experience and ability to perform basic welding repairs on equipment components.
• Experience as a maintenance mechanic, maintenance technician, production mechanic, packaging mechanic, or auto mechanic is beneficial.
• Hands-on experience with preventative maintenance programs in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Demonstrated mechanical ability working with tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance and repair.
• Willingness to work overtime and occasionally support other facilities when additional help is needed.
• Interest in developing electrical skills and expanding technical knowledge over time.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large manufacturing facility with approximately 150 employees, where work is performed throughout the entire plant wherever production equipment is located. The environment is not climate controlled, and the Mechanic must be comfortable working in warm conditions and moving around the facility. Steel-toed boots are required as part of the dress code, and safety procedures must be followed at all times. There are positions on 2nd shift (3pm-11pm) and 3rd shift (11pm-7am). Must be willing to work weekends.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baltimore, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.70 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
