Title Mental Health Clinician II: Division of Institutions #00656 State Role Title Psych II/Psychology Assoc II Hiring Range $75,161 - $122,763 Pay Band 5 Agency Dept of Corr - Central Admin Location DOC Headquarters Agency Website Recruitment Type General Public - G Job Duties Serves as Department Head for the Sex Offender Residential Treatment (SORT) Program. Provides clinical and administrative supervision to assigned staff. Provides evidence-based, state‑of‑the‑art sex offender programming to adult sex offenders, including treatment, assessment, and reentry/release planning services. Makes recommendations to the Sex Offender Program Director regarding program changes that are research‑based and have demonstrated effectiveness. Oversees and directs the development, implementation and monitoring of SORT Program mental health/sex offender treatment services, policies and programs. Ensures that documentation and records are maintained according to Department of Corrections (DOC), DBHDS and American Correctional Association (ACA) standards. Provides training to clinical and non‑clinical staff. Provides mental health services to SORT Program participants including crisis intervention, screening, psychological assessment and evaluation, psychoeducational services, individual and group therapy, treatment planning, and release planning under the supervision and direction of the Sex Offender Program Director. Minimum Qualifications Graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Social Work, or equivalent degree in related human services field from an accredited university or college or an equivalent combination of training and experience, with advanced coursework in mental health supporting the ability to fulfill the required tasks of a Mental Health Service Provider as mandated by the Code of Virginia. Eligible to complete certification as a Sex Offender Treatment Provider by the Virginia Board of Psychology. Knowledge of psychological theory and practices on various mental disorders, sexual disorders, and contemporary assessment and treatment approaches. Knowledge of salient areas related to effective sex offender treatment modalities. Ability to develop appropriate treatment plans and provide group and individual counseling. Demonstrated knowledge of the purpose, strengths, and limitation of various psychological and sex offender specific assessment instruments. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to discuss and explain psychological/diagnostic impressions and issues. Additional Considerations Ability to fulfill professional tasks of a Mental Health Service Provider as mandated by the Code of Virginia. Experience working clinically with sexual offenders, performing sex offender assessment and interpretation, psychological testing, evaluation, and counseling.
