Join Our Team and Grow Your Career Across Levels I, II, and III. About the Role Are you passionate about making a difference and eager to advance your career? We have openings for dynamic professionals at Levels I, II, and III. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take on a leadership role, this position offers a clear pathway for growth and development. About our Team Working in our Planning Department is challenging and fun, from both an intellectual and interpersonal perspective. As regulators within a well-defined and occasionally political system, we approach our responsibilities with a positive, solutions-focused mindset. Our team develops policy grounded in community input, upholds high ethical standards, ensures consistency in our processes and decisions, and places strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration. Assignments are aligned with individual interests where possible, and we coordinate effectively to ensure alignment and mutual support. Recently, we finalized a complex and controversial update to our short-term rental regulations. Our current focus is on updating the Housing Element and the Regional Transportation Plan. Additionally, we are processing planning permits for various uses, including an event venue, RV park, and short-term rentals. We are also collaborating with external agencies on projects such as highway wildlife crossings, Bi-State sage grouse conservation, and water management initiatives. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a clear communicator and thoughtful problem-solver who brings strong analytical skills and sound judgment to entitlement reviews and policy development. They are comfortable engaging with the public, writing detailed reports, offering well-supported recommendations, and working in a collaborative and team-based environment. With a balance of critical thinking, tact, humor, and professionalism, they help create a positive, informed, and community-focused planning process. Experience and Education Levels I/II Graduation from a four (4) year college or university with major work in planning, or a closely related field. Experience equivalent to that of a Planning Technician or a permit technician with a government agency may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
