Nurse Practitioner / Certified Nurse Midwife – Maternal & Women's Health

Location: Hanover, Goochland, New Kent & Charles City Counties, VA
Schedule: No nights • No weekends • No call

About the Role

Abacus Corporation is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (Family or Women's Health) or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to provide maternal health, reproductive health, family planning, STI, and community-based clinical services.

This is an excellent opportunity for a provider who enjoys patient-centered care, public health, and working with diverse communities . The position provides services across Hanover, Goochland, New Kent, and Charles City Counties , with travel between locations required.

What You'll Do

Maternal & Prenatal Care

• Provide comprehensive prenatal care, including initial evaluations, routine visits, risk assessments, and monitoring of maternal and fetal health.
• Order, interpret, and follow up on labs, ultrasounds, and other diagnostic testing.
• Identify high-risk pregnancies and coordinate referrals to OB/GYN, perinatal, behavioral health, and social service providers.
• Manage common pregnancy-related conditions within scope of practice, including anemia, hypertension, infections, and diabetes screening.
• Provide education and counseling on nutrition, physical activity, substance use, mental health, breastfeeding, family planning, and safe infant care.
• Deliver trauma-informed and culturally responsive care to diverse populations.

Family Planning & Reproductive Health

• Conduct reproductive health assessments and provide contraceptive counseling.
• Educate patients on fertility awareness, pregnancy planning, and preconception health.
• Perform pregnancy testing and provide appropriate counseling, referrals, and follow-up.

STI Services

• Conduct STI risk assessments, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing as applicable.
• Provide education regarding STI prevention, treatment adherence, and partner notification.
• Coordinate follow-up care and referrals for patients with positive results.
• Maintain confidentiality and a supportive, nonjudgmental approach.

TB/LTBI Evaluations

• Work alongside the TB nursing coordinator and nursing staff to perform comprehensive physical examinations and medical evaluations.
• Support appropriate follow-up, referrals, and documentation.

Public Health & Community Outreach

• Participate in maternal health initiatives focused on improving maternal and infant health outcomes.
• Collaborate with public health nurses, WIC, home visiting programs, social services, community health workers, health educators, and local healthcare providers.
• Support efforts to increase access to early and consistent prenatal and postnatal care.
• Participate in group prenatal education, childbirth preparation, safe sleep, car seat education, and other community programs as needed.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records and clinical documentation.
• Follow applicable state and local public health protocols, standing orders, and clinical guidelines.
• Support Title V Maternal & Child Health requirements and reproductive/sexual health programs.
• Participate in chart reviews, audits, program evaluations, and grant-related reporting as needed.

What We're Looking For

Required

• Current Virginia licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (Family or Women's Health) or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) .
• Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing or Midwifery.
• Experience providing prenatal, women's health, reproductive health, or sexual health services.
• Knowledge of family planning, STI prevention, maternal-child health, and population-based care.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to provide respectful, culturally responsive care to diverse populations.
• Ability to travel between assigned locations in Hanover, Goochland, New Kent, and Charles City Counties .

Preferred

• Public health or community-based healthcare experience.
• Familiarity with Title V, Title X, state family planning programs, or STI surveillance.
• Training in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, or culturally responsive care.
• Experience serving high-risk or underserved populations.
• Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.
