JOB TITLE: Maintenance Coordinator

FLSA: Exempt

SALARY SCHEDULE: MT

REPORTS TO: Chief School Financial Officer

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan.
• Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. At least five years' experience in maintenance.

2. Administrative certification or classified with experience and/or training in maintenance.

3. Proficient in public relations and management of maintenance employees.

9. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama

statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

SUPERVISES: Maintenance Employees and physical school facilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinate the services related to maintenance, lawn maintenance, and custodial.
2. Plan, organize, and assign maintenance employees to daily job tasks.
3. Check completed job tasks of maintenance employees.
4. Maintain adequate inventory of maintenance supplies, and equipment.
5. Provide technical supervision of custodial personnel in cooperation with principals.
6. Develop a plan for the health and safety of maintenance and custodial personnel.
7. Formulate and recommend to the Superintendent, in concert with supervisory staff appropriate staff development activities for personnel in maintenance and custodial services.
8. Participate in appropriate local and state meetings.
9. Evaluate all personnel within the Maintenance Department.
10. Direct, supervise and evaluate maintenance personnel in accordance with Board policy.
11. Manage the School System's automated maintenance work system.
12. Be on call seven days a week, 24 hours a day, for emergencies threatening the school system's property and equipment.
13. Assist the Human Resources Department with recruitment and selection of maintenance personnel.
14. Provide training for maintenance and custodial personnel.
15. Approve, organize, prioritize, order, evaluate and maintain records of materials for all maintenance projects.
16. Meet with the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO on a monthly basis to repoprt on upcoming day to day projects, equipment needs, personnel concerns/needs and any other information necessary for the effectiveness of the maintenance operation.
17. Keep the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO apprised of deadlines, personnel concerns and any other matters as needed.
18. Coordinate the care and maintenance of all Athens City School facilities.
19. Maintain accurate and current records of maintenance projects including, but not limited to, time-on-task, cost and completion dates.
20. Supervise the maintenance of all vehicles and equipment in the maintenance department.
21. Assist the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO in developing an annual maintenance budget.
22. Assist the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO with the purchase of school vehicles.
23. Assist Principals in prioritizing maintenance needs for each school.
24. Assist health inspectors and other outside personnel with the evaluation of physical facilities.
25. Adhere to all federal, state, and local laws, policies and regulations.
26. Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO or the Superintendent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of building trades and applicable functions.
2. Knowledge of the organization and operation of maintenance, and custodial services.
3. Ability to plan and manage work schedules.
4. Knowledge of state and local laws and policies related to public works projects.
5. Ability to organize effectively.
6. Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms.
7. Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel.
8. Skills in public relations and problem-solving.
9. Knowledge and proficiency in the use of technology.
10. Knowledge of federal and state laws relative to business operations.
11. Physical ability and dexterity to visit schools and community sites and work areas for decision-making relative to maintenance and construction and custodial services.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of personnel.
