Remote Payroll Specialist (Remote)

Hunter Hamilton is partnering with a globally family owned retailer and they are in need of a temporary Payroll Specialist. This role will initially be covering a LOA, however, there could be potential for extension down the road depending on performance and business need. This is a fully remote role. Candidates MUST have California payroll processing experience to be considered for this opportunity. UKG is also strongly preferred. The hours will be 9-6pm in the chosen candidate's time zone. As a Payroll Specialist, you'll play a key role in ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across a multi-state workforce: Process high-volume, multi-state payroll , ensuring accuracy and timeliness Manage California non-exempt payroll (including overtime, meal/rest break compliance, and final pay requirements) Handle terminations , including final paychecks and compliance with state regulations Ensure proper deductions for taxes, benefits, and garnishments Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies quickly and accurately Generate payroll reports and support internal stakeholders Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and urgency Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws Utilize UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) for payroll processing and reporting What We're Looking For 2-3+ years of payroll experience , ideally in high-volume environments MUST HAVE: Strong experience with California non-exempt payroll Experience processing multi-state payroll Hands-on experience with UKG payroll systems (highly preferred) Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, taxes, garnishments, and terminations Advanced attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines independently Excellent communication skills and customer-service mindset The base pay range listed reflects what we reasonably expect to offer for this role.
