Mid-Level Technical Writer: SATCOM & PKI Systems

This position is based near Columbia, Maryland, with alternative duty locations in San Diego, California, Englewood, Colorado, or Huntsville, Alabama. Job Summary Leidos is seeking a Mid-Level Technical Writer to join a high-impact, multi-agency program serving the United States Space Force (USSF) / Space Systems Command (SSC), the United States Air Force (USAF), and other critical mission stakeholders. The selected individual will play a key role in enhancing, testing, and deploying a large-scale Satellite Communications (SATCOM) system to an existing infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in public key infrastructure (PKI) and key management, excels at complex problem solving, and has a strong record of delivering results as part of a high-performing team in a fast-paced Agile Development environment. Primary Responsibilities Prepare, author, edit, and proof technical documents and program deliverables (e.g., system manuals, user guides, training materials, installation guides, proposals, reports) in accordance with the SOW and CDRLs. Ensure all documents conform to program standards, Data Item Description (DID) requirements, and applicable templates. Create and maintain document templates using styles and formats in MS Word. Work closely with engineers, developers, testers, Release Train Engineers, users, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, define content, and capture data and media for documentation. Perform quality assurance reviews on all contractual documentation and deliverables, ensuring comments and customer feedback are fully addressed. Format, review, and submit contract deliverables and reports, ensuring proper configuration management (CM) and version control in coordination with Data Management staff. Oversee the collection, organization, editing, and revision of documentation supporting complex computer systems and networks. Apply and help guide implementation of CMMI Maturity Level 3 best practices for documentation and quality. Manage multiple documentation efforts simultaneously with strong attention to detail, quality, and on-time task completion. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical, Writing, or related discipline and at least 8 years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be substituted for a degree. Must have at least 5 years of experience as a full time dedicated Technical Writer on a large, complex technical program, creating, editing, and producing extensive documents, reports CDRLs, and briefings for diverse audiences, including senior leadership. Must have expert-level proficiency with advanced MS Word formatting and editing features, with extensive experience developing, managing, and refining large, complex technical documents and publications. Must have direct experience working with system engineers, software engineers, and program management to translate technical information into clear, concise documentation including user manuals and reports. Must demonstrate excellent grammar skills (including punctuation, spelling, and usage). Must be an exceptional communicator, both verbally and in writing, able to convey information clearly and concisely, build rapport effectively, and understand, interpret, and explain highly technical concepts to diverse audiences. Must have experience planning, prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be capable of performing high-quality work both individually and as part of a team. Must be a self-motivated problem solver who proactively takes initiative when issues arise. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in a Technical, Writing, or related discipline. Experience working with or in military Satellite Communications (SATCOM) organizations such as United States Air Force (USAF), United States Space Force (USSF), or another Agency. Experience working with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)/ key management programs and technologies. Experience working on or with multi-disciplinary technical development teams. Experience working on an agile program and team. Extensive experience on a system/software development program compiling, editing, and publishing CDRL documentation. Sound understanding of CMMI ML3 best practices, DID formats, and agile methodologies. Clearance Required Must have TS/SCI with Polygraph.
