Location Cabarrus County School District Jay M. Robinson High, Concord, North Carolina Starting Date August 5, 2026 Job Description Performs professional teaching work providing a broad range of instruction or a specific learning program. Assists students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for future learning across all grade levels, using a variety of teaching and learning methods tailored to each student’s ability. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Principal. Essential Functions Develops lesson plans and instructional materials using effective teaching strategies. Maintains effective classroom management, recognizing and addressing learning and behavior issues. Understands developmental appropriateness of materials and differentiates instruction to meet the needs of all learners. Evaluates student accomplishments regularly, using multiple assessment methods; provides progress and interim reports for feedback. Communicates with parents timely and maintains positive, constructive communication with students, staff, parents, and the community. Protects students, equipment, materials, and facilities by taking necessary precautions. Upholds and enforces board policy, district goals, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations. Adheres to health and safety policies. Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and proper use of conference and planning time. Keeps current in subject‑matter knowledge and learning theory; attends workshops, seminars, conferences, and committee meetings as required. Respects confidentiality of records and information regarding students and parents in accordance with professional ethics and state/federal laws. Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in school areas. Performs non‑instructional duties as assigned. Standard II: Teachers Establish a Respectful Environment for a Diverse Population Creates an environment where each child has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and a climate that is inviting, respectful, supportive, inclusive, and flexible. Embraces diversity by demonstrating knowledge of diverse cultures. Treats students as individuals, maintaining high expectations for all and valuing differences. Collaborates with specialists to adapt teaching for students with special needs. Improves communication and collaboration between school and home/community with families and significant adults. Standard III: Teachers Know the Content They Teach Aligns instruction with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Brings richness and depth of understanding to the subject area. Recognizes interconnectedness of content areas and vertical alignment across grades or subjects. Incorporates 21st‑century life skills into instruction deliberately, strategically, and broadly. Standard IV: Teachers Facilitate Learning for Their Students Understanding how learning occurs at various intellectual, physical, social, and emotional developmental levels. Plans instruction collaboratively with colleagues, using a variety of data sources. Employs a variety of instructional methods chosen for maximum effectiveness. Integrates technology to maximize student learning. Encourages students to ask questions, think creatively, draw conclusions, and solve problems. Promotes teamwork and leadership by teaching cooperation and collaboration. Communicates effectively in ways clearly understood by students. Uses multiple indicators to assess student learning and progress. Standard V: Teachers Reflect on Their Practice Analyzes student learning systematically and critically. Links professional growth to goals through high‑quality professional development. Functions effectively in a dynamic environment, recognizing that change is constant. Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree from an approved education program in the subject area. Strong background in North Carolina Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards. Physical Requirements Occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force. Requires speaking, hearing, use of hands for repetitive motions, frequent sitting, occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing or pulling, and lifting. Standard vision requirements. Vocal communication required for expressing ideas orally. Hearing required to perceive normal spoken word levels. Requires preparation and analysis of written or computer data, operating machines or equipment, and observing general surroundings. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Generally in a moderately noisy setting. Special Requirements North Carolina Teaching License in the appropriate subject area or qualifications to obtain one.
