Correctional Officer 1 – Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC), Seward, Alaska We are recruiting Correctional Officer 1 positions for Spring Creek Correctional Center, a maximum‑security adult correctional institution located in Seward, Alaska. A new Correctional Officer undergoes 12‑14 months of structured field training and completes a seven‑week Correctional Officer Academy. Upon successful completion, the officer is promoted to Correctional Officer 2. Responsibilities Maintain order and discipline in the facility. Operate security control room and conduct regular security checks and inspections. Handle unruly and violent prisoners using minimum force necessary. Create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to prisoner rehabilitation. Respond promptly to emergencies, diffusing conflicts with sound judgment. Qualifications Follow oral and written instructions and communicate information effectively. Apply techniques of self‑defense, firearms, and appropriate force. Read, comprehend, and apply statutes, regulations, and procedures. Ability to use business software. American citizenship or U.S. national, age 21 or older. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Valid driver’s license issued within the United States. Ready to work shift assignments and on‑call availability. Willingness to complete background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination. Benefits Up to 16 days of paid leave in the first two years, increasing with service, and 12 paid holidays annually. Work schedule: 84‑hour work week with a week‑on/week‑off rotation alternating day and night shifts. Relocation incentives may be available. Working Environment Spring Creek Correctional Center has a capacity of over 500 male inmates and approximately 200 staff. Many inmates serve long‑term sentences; the facility also houses those serving shorter sentences. Legal and Background Requirements Applicants must complete a full criminal background check, drug screening, medical examination, psychological evaluation, and possess a valid driver’s license. Corrective Officer 1 appointment is conditional upon successful completion of these requirements.
