Counselor

Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide drug and alcohol counseling services to the residents of Firetree, Ltd.'s inpatient and/or detox programs.
All activities must support the Firetree, Ltd. mission, strategic goals, and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.
  • Supervise a caseload of up to 8 residents.
  • Provide clinical supervision for Counselor Assistants.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of clinical new hires.
  • Prepare weekly clinical schedule.
  • Complete intake, evaluation and referrals as needed for funding sources.
  • Facilitate group and individual counseling sessions.
  • Write social histories, clinical assessments, and develop resident treatment plan(s).
  • Monitor resident progress toward goals and objectives as stated in the treatment plan and update the treatment plan(s) as required.
  • Write monthly progress reports on residents for the referring agency.
  • Make appropriate aftercare contacts for treatment services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

A Master's Degree or above from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field which includes a practicum in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting, OR a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 1 year of clinical experience (a minimum of 1,820 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting, OR an Associate's Degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 2 years of clinical experience (a minimum of 3,640 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If a person's experience is not in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual's written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues.

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, the employee should have strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook). Must have the ability to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks.

To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position. Daily movements include sitting; standing; operating computers and other office equipment; moving about the office; and attending onsite and offsite meetings. The employee must be able to communicate via email and verbally via telephone. The employee must occasionally transport up to 25 pounds.
