Youth Care Specialist

Overview Job Title: Youth Care Specialist – Shelter (Crisis Stabilization) at the Mary Holland Campus (Headquarters), Omaha, NE. Role focuses on providing a safe, therapeutic, learning environment for youth ages 12–19. You will supervise youth according to program structure and help meet their needs while navigating crisis- or behavior-related challenges. Responsibilities Maintain visual supervision and know where children and youth are at all times by following the program schedule, engaging in positive interactions, and participating in activities with youth. Maintain the integrity of the program structure and the therapeutic environment by adhering to the schedule, helping youth meet expectations, providing learning opportunities, and following program procedures, including medication management as required. Develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships by treating youth with respect, offering constructive feedback, and showing empathy. Identify opportunities to teach life skills through everyday activities. Effectively communicate written information (client files, medication logs, pass reports, caseworker calls, etc.) to establish and maintain accurate records of each child’s placement; maintain agency records (incident reports, restraint reports, etc.). Promote a professional, positive work environment by reporting on time for shifts, trainings, and meetings, following agency protocols, and remaining flexible to meet client and program needs. Handle crises using CPI and other approved techniques in a manner that preserves positive therapeutic relationships. Implement agency policies, licensing and accreditation standards, and maintain a clean and aesthetically appropriate environment. Perform other duties as directed by supervisor; complete required training aligned with program and agency staff development plans and identify training appropriate for the position; take responsibility for scheduling and attending trainings. Complete required trainings before working independently with youth, including 24-hour checklist training, defensive driving, car seat and transportation training, and orientation. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience in Human Services with children at risk and residential work strongly preferred. Minimum of 21 years of age with stamina and temperament to work with youth experiencing crisis or emotional/behavioral disorders. Motor vehicle record of 3 points or less. Must be able to provide proof of active auto insurance.
