St. Mary's Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Inpatient Psychiatrist to join our compassionate and experienced Behavioral Health team in Amsterdam, NY. This full-time, hospital-employed position is based within our 20-bed adult inpatient unit and offers an exceptional opportunity to provide high-quality psychiatric care to patients experiencing acute mental health crises. As part of a collaborative and supportive team, you will work closely with social workers, psychiatric nurses, and therapists to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered treatment in a safe and therapeutic environment.

Position Highlights:

• Full-time, hospital-based role with a structured schedule.
• 20-bed inpatient adult unit with multidisciplinary team support.
• Ability to collaborate with social workers, therapists, and nursing staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Low call burden and supportive leadership team.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and develop individualized treatment plans. Provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and crisis intervention.
• Manage and monitor psychopharmacological interventions.
• Provide psychological support and psychoeducation to patients and families.
• Ensure effective discharge planning and care transitions in collaboration with case management.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and treatment reviews.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Qualifications:

Required Credentials - Board Certified/Board Eligible Psychiatrist licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the State of New York

Preferred Experience – Prior experience with inpatient psychiatric populations preferred but not required.

Education - Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution

Skills - Strong diagnostic skills, compassionate approach, and ability to work in a team environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base Salary Range - $285K – 325K (commensurate with experience).

Complexity of Work:

Requires expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of acute psychiatric disorders within a hospital setting. Must be skilled in crisis intervention, psychopharmacology, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The role demands strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to manage complex patient dynamics while maintaining a therapeutic environment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Adherence to Standard Precautions and utilization of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) are mandatory to ensure the safety of both patients and staff.
