Duties Provide expert patient-centered medical care including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute, chronic, and preventive health needs within specialty. Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and coordinated care, review conflicting medical evidence to reach final conclusions. Perform specialty-specific diagnostic, therapeutic, and/or surgical procedures consistent with training and credentialing including adjudicating complex disability claims. Contribute to teaching, mentorship, and professional development of medical staff, students, and trainees. Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical innovation initiatives to advance healthcare delivery. Requirements and Background Conditions of employment Selectee may be subject to a probationary period. U.S. Citizenship is required. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. IHS Selectees working in an IHS health care facility may be subject to Employee Health Policies related to Measles and Rubella, and seasonal influenza immunizations. Background Investigation This position requires a federal background investigation as a condition of employment, to verify identity, employment history, education, and other information. Qualifications To qualify, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service. You must clearly identify duties and hours per week in each position. The Hiring Manager may elect to use available flexibility for applicants completing a required professional training program and expected to complete within 9 months of applying. Basic Requirements Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school. Accreditation must be by a recognized body at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: Must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to U.S. standards, demonstrated by ECFMG certification or other recognized pathways. Licensure For all grade levels, must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted medical license or registration in a U.S. state/territory. Graduate Training Substantial supervised clinical experience after medical degree (e.g., internship, residency, fellowship) in programs recognized by U.S./Canada accrediting bodies. Details of internships, residencies, and fellowships are described below. An internship involves broadly based clinical practice in multiple medical areas under supervision. A residency involves training in a specialized medical field in an AMA/ACGME-accredited program. A fellowship involves advanced training in a medical specialty in an institution accredited for such training. Minimum qualifications (basic requirements plus additional requirements): For GS-13 – 3 years of graduate training in the specialty or equivalent experience and training. For GS-14 – 4 years of graduate training in the specialty or equivalent experience and training. For GS-15 – 5 years of graduate training in the specialty or equivalent experience and training.
