Duties Inspect regulated food commodities and other ingestible items for safety and quality. Collect samples, perform field tests, and examine production environments. Identify abnormalities and recommend corrective actions. Develop written reports and communicate findings verbally to internal and external contacts. Maintain effective personal contacts with a variety of individuals regarding food safety standards. Requirements Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education as defined below. Qualifications Specialized experience is defined as experience that provided knowledge of the properties and characteristics of regulated food commodities or other products for human consumption. GS‑05: At least 52 weeks of qualifying experience with regulated food commodities or substances (e.g., meat, poultry, fish, eggs, pharmaceuticals). GS‑07: In addition, at least one year of specialized experience and independent performance of routine standard assignments. GS‑08: Includes experience working with Federal Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products Inspection Acts, SSOP and HACCP principles, basic mathematics and statistics for testing. GS‑09: Requires at least one year of specialized experience at a more independent level, possibly recommending export refusals and covering additional locations. Volunteer work through National Service programs (Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations will be considered for qualification.
