Job Summary
Surgical technologists are allied health professionals who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients in a variety of settings. The surgical technologist works under medical supervision to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. This individual works under the supervision of a surgeon to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions appropriately, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. A surgical technologist possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Provide Scrub Tech services to all Operating Room venues within the Division of Perioperative Services to include: Pavilion Operating Room, UT Surgery Suite, Children's Surgery Center, Same Day Surgery Center, and 48x Surgery Center. The (level II) Senior Scrub Technologist meets and exceeds the competencies of the (level I) scrub technologists and who is also an advanced first scrub practitioner in 3 or more complex surgical specialties.Apply By Date : June 18th, 2026 at 11:59pm PST.
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) or UCDH CPR
- Graduate of an Associate Degree or Vocational Training Program in Surgical Technology
- All educational programs are expected to meet the minimal curriculum requirements defined in the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology. Only accredited programs will be considered to meet the criteria, or equivalent military training in Surgical Technology
- One (1) year work experience in an Operating Room participating as a Scrub Technologist across a wide variety of complex surgeries
- Knowledge and understanding of medical and surgical terminology.
- Knowledge, skills and experience in assigned surgical specialty area and shift.
- Knowledge and understanding of AST standards and recommended practices (Association of Surgical Technologists).
- Knowledge and understanding of CORT guidelines (Certified Operating Room Technician).
- Knowledge and understanding of AORN standards and recommended practices (Association of Operating Room Nurses).
- Knowledge and understanding of principles of and practices of asepsis/sterile techniques, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment usage and processing in assigned specialty.
- Knowledge and understanding of common major surgical procedures for major surgical services.
- Knowledge of emergent and routinely used equipment.
- Knowledge of handling delicate equipment and instruments.
- Knowledge and understanding of AAMI recommended practices (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation).
- Knowledge and understanding of department and hospital policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of conducting Quality Assurance monitors pertinent to assigned area and practice.
- Knowledge of handling infectious waste and hazardous substances (chemicals used for cleaning, sanitation, disinfection and sterilization).
- Ability to prioritize assigned duties.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal communication and relationships with coworkers.
- Ability to cope during stressful situations and working in a highly paced environment including dealing with surgical emergencies.
- Ability to set priorities, organize work independently and for others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Scrub Technologists (CST) from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- One (1) year work experience in Surgical Technology at a Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Center Operating Room

Department Overview
Perioperative Services at UC Davis Health encompasses multiple Operating Rooms, Preoperative and Post-Anesthesia Units, and Sterile Processing Departments, across the UC Davis Health Campus. Surgical care is provided across the entire life spectrum, includes a wide range of inpatient and ambulatory surgical specialties, including (but not limited to: ACS Level 1 Trauma, Bariatric, Burn, Cardiac, Colorectal, Endocrine, ENT, Gynecology, comprehensive Neurosurgery, Oncologic, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Trauma, comprehensive Orthopedic (Spine, Foot & Ankle, Hand & Hand Trauma), Otolaryngology, Pain, Plastics, Robotics, Thoracic, Transplant, Vascular, Urology, and Uro-Gyn. Additionally, our Children's Surgery Center provides comprehensive surgical care in the full-range of surgical specialties in an age-appropriate setting.
