The Cashier – Gift Shop is responsible for providing outstanding guest service and performing sales, stocking, and merchandising duties in the Casino Gift Shop. This position operates the point-of-sale system, handles cash transactions, maintains store appearance, and ensures a clean and inviting shopping environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists guests with purchases in a friendly, professional, and service-oriented manner.
• Operates cash register accurately; processes cash, credit, and voucher transactions.
• Stocks shelves, prices merchandise, and ensures product displays are neat and organized.
• Prepares daily sales reports and balances drawer at the end of shift.
• Assists in inventory control and reconciliation tasks as needed.
• Performs light housekeeping duties, including dusting, polishing shelves, and general store upkeep.
• Maintains awareness of current promotions and product knowledge to assist guests effectively.
• Follows all company policies and procedures related to sales, safety, and security.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent money-handling and guest service skills required.
• Must demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, and a high level of professionalism.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Must possess a high regard for guest service and team member relations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Additional coursework in retail, hospitality, or customer service is a plus.
• Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience in a retail cashier or customer service role.
• Proficient in operating POS systems, processing cash and credit transactions, and handling returns or exchanges.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on guest service.
• Ability to multitask, follow procedures, and support merchandising or restocking duties as needed.
• Prior experience in a gift shop, casino, resort, or tourism-based retail setting is preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

• Communication Skills : Must be able to communicate clearly, professionally, and courteously with guests, coworkers, and supervisors in person and occasionally by phone; must be able to assist customers with purchases, answer product questions, and resolve minor concerns with tact and efficiency.
• Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifts and carries merchandise, shopping bags, restock items, or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds; may assist with receiving shipments or arranging displays.
• Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands and fingers to operate a cash register, scan items, process transactions, handle money, and manage merchandise with accuracy and speed.
• Mobility: Frequently walks, stands, bends, and reaches throughout the shift while assisting customers, stocking shelves, and maintaining the sales floor; must be able to remain on feet for extended periods.
• Stationary Work: Frequently stands at the register for extended durations during guest transactions and peak traffic times.
• Tool Operation: Regular use of point-of-sale (POS) systems, scanners, phones, credit card terminals, and standard retail equipment; may also use pricing guns, label makers, and handheld inventory tools.
• Visual Acuity: Requires near vision to process payments, read labels, verify pricing, and review inventory documents; must be attentive to detail in both guest service and cash handling procedures.
• Working Conditions: Routinely works in a guest-facing retail environment with exposure to moderate noise, public interaction, occasional guest complaints, and a smoking environment in or near casino and property areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.                                

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
