School Counselor

Position Title School Counselor – Grades 6–12 Location Richmond Middle and High School, 132 Main St., Richmond, Maine 04357 Position Summary Richmond Middle and High School is seeking a full‑time school counselor to join our team for the 2026-27 school year. The counselor will play a vital role in supporting the academic, social‑emotional, and college/career development of students in grades 6–12. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a small, student‑centered school of approximately 200 students. Our school is home to a dedicated and collaborative team of educators and staff who are committed to helping all students thrive. Relationships are at the heart of all we do, and we are looking to find someone eager to build those relationships with students. Qualifications Maine Department of Education Certification 075 (School Counselor) Conditional certification will be considered Current CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) authorization required Key Goals of the School Counseling Program Design and implement a comprehensive counseling program aligned with the ASCA National Model. Provide direct services to support college and career readiness, academic success, and social‑emotional wellness. Empower students with the tools and knowledge to plan for their post‑secondary paths, whether it be college, career, or serving our country in a branch of the military. Play an active role in the school’s Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for student success. Foster strong, trust‑based relationships with students and families Reduce barriers to learning and engagement, including chronic absenteeism and truancy. Ensure timely development and implementation of 504 Plans and accommodations. College & Career Readiness Responsibilities Provide resources and counseling related to college applications, scholarships, financial aid (FAFSA), and entrance exams (e.g., SAT, ACT). Organize and facilitate college and career events, including career days, college rep visits, and field trips. Assist students with course planning and understanding graduation requirements in alignment with their future goals. Provide support for students pursuing CTE (Career & Technical Education) pathways, dual enrollment, and internships. Serve as a liaison between students, families, and post‑secondary institutions or employers. General Counseling Responsibilities Deliver Tier I SEL instruction in classroom settings and small groups. Offer individual and small group counseling to address social‑emotional and behavioral needs. Provide crisis intervention and response as needed. Collaborate with staff and families to support students' academic and emotional well‑being. Participate actively in MTSS meetings and contribute to intervention planning. Analyze student data to identify school‑wide trends and areas of need. Coordinate and manage referrals to external support services. Support restorative practices and positive school culture initiatives.
