Senior Project AccountantDuration: 6 month assignment Candidates are required to come onsite 4 days a week.Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to support capital and project accounting activities across a large-scale retail organization. This role partners closely with Construction, Real Estate, Procurement, Finance, and Operations teams to ensure accurate accounting treatment of capital investments, asset management activities, and complex business initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with business acumen, analytical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.Key Responsibilities:Perform accounting analysis and oversight for capital projects, construction, remodels, facility improvements, and asset replacement initiatives.Evaluate expenditures and determine appropriate capital versus expense treatment in accordance with company policy and accounting standards.Manage fixed asset accounting activities, including capitalization, depreciation, transfers, impairments, and asset retirements.Research and resolve complex accounting issues involving historical transactions, project costs, and asset management.Support month-end close activities, audits, and internal control requirements related to capital and fixed asset accounting.Partner with project managers, construction teams, real estate professionals, procurement teams, and finance leadership to provide accounting guidance and business support.Review project documentation and provide recommendations regarding accounting treatment and financial impact.Drive timely resolution of accounting and project-related issues through effective communication and stakeholder engagement.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.6+ years of progressive accounting experience.Strong knowledge of: U.S. GAAP Project Accounting Fixed Asset Accounting Capitalization policies and principles Capital project accounting.Experience supporting construction, facilities, real estate, capital projects, or other asset-intensive environments.Experience supporting month-end close activities, including: Journal entries Reconciliations Accounting analyses Financial reporting.Strong understanding of accounting treatments for complex and non-routine transactions.Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including: Pivot Tables VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP Data analysis and reporting functions.Experience working with Oracle and/or another major ERP system.Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Preferred Qualifications:CPA designation preferred but not required.Experience in retail, distribution, manufacturing, or multi-site operating environments.Experience supporting large capital investment programs and project-based accounting environments.Experience leading accounting processes, special projects, or process improvement initiatives.Knowledge of project accounting systems, fixed asset subledgers, and enterprise financial systems.Experience working cross-functionally with Construction, Real Estate, Procurement, Finance, and Operations teams.Ideal Candidate Profile:The successful candidate will be: A trusted accounting advisor who applies sound judgment to complex business transactions.
