Pre-Anesthesia Testing, Registered Nurse

The duties of the Pre-Anesthesia Testing, Registered Nurse include, but are not limited to the following:

• Delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned surgical patients while developing technical skills.
• Assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates care based on specific surgical components.
• Provides comprehensive, professional, and personalized preparation of patients prior to surgical and/or medical procedures, to include patients scheduled to receive sedation and anesthesia care in the surgical setting.
• Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
• Follows procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Reviews patients medical history, ensuring preoperative documentation is completed timely, reviews patient medication appropriateness for surgery.
• Collaborates with the Pre-Anesthesia Testing clinic nurse practitioner and surgical scheduler to coordinate dates, consents, and post-operative disposition.
• Works to coordinate anesthesia evaluations, validation of testing as ordered by the surgeon and adjunct providers, transportation assistance, lodging arrangements, identifying potential roadblocks to scheduling patients for procedures and alerting the surgeon and operative staff, assisting patients in planning for discharge care, and patient and family education.
• This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments.
