The Sheet Metal Worker is responsible for fabricating and installing ductwork systems, including for HVAC and mechanical projects. This role involves working with sheet metal to create and install air ducts, commercial air handlers, and other related components within commercial buildings, including hospitals, schools, and hotels. The Sheet Metal Worker will ensure that all installations comply with project specifications, building codes, and safety standards, and will collaborate with other trades to integrate systems effectively. This role also includes performing air handler change-outs and other tasks as needed to complete the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems. The core areas of responsibility are listed below, however other duties and responsibilities may be required to meet business needs and objectives. Travel as needed is required.

Job Responsibilities (List is not inclusive)


Duct Fabrication and Installation:

• Fabricate and assemble HVAC ductwork systems according to blueprints and project specifications.

• Cut, shape, and install metal ducts, fittings, and related HVAC components for air distribution systems in commercial buildings.

• Use hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal machinery (such as shears, brakes, and benders) to fabricate ductwork.

• Perform quality checks during fabrication to ensure that ductwork meets project specifications and is free of defects.

• Install ductwork in accordance with building codes, ensuring that it is properly secured, aligned, and insulated.

System Integration and Collaboration:

• Work with other trades (such as electricians and plumbers) to ensure proper integration of HVAC systems into the overall building system.

• Collaborate with project managers and foremen to coordinate the installation and ensure timely completion of ductwork and HVAC systems.

• Ensure that all installations comply with building codes, project specifications, and safety regulations.

• Perform final testing and inspections to verify system functionality and ensure quality standards are met.

Maintenance and Repairs:

• Assist with the maintenance, repair, and replacement of ductwork and HVAC components in existing buildings.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with HVAC ductwork and air handler systems, addressing problems such as airflow restrictions or leaks.

• Perform maintenance work on air handlers, including cleaning and replacing parts as necessary.

Safety and Compliance:

• Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.

• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained.

• Follow OSHA and other relevant safety regulations while working on job sites.

• Report any potential safety hazards to the supervisor or safety manager and ensure that the work area is kept clean and organized.

Tool and Equipment Management:

• Operate and maintain tools and machinery required for sheet metal fabrication and installation, ensuring they are in good working condition.

• Ensure that all tools and equipment are used properly and stored safely when not in use.

• Keep work areas clean and organized, ensuring tools and materials are accessible and safely stored.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Proficiency in sheet metal fabrication, including cutting, bending, and welding techniques.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and HVAC system drawings.

• Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal machinery, including shears, brakes, and benders.

• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to ductwork and HVAC systems.

• Knowledge of HVAC system components and installation practices, particularly for air handlers and ductwork.

• Strong attention to detail, ensuring that all installations are completed accurately and meet quality standards.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to complete Form I-9 upon hire.

• Employment subject to E-Verify confirmation.

• Must be able to travel to multiple construction sites within the U.S. and present acceptable identification for security or travel purposes.

• Reliable transportation and ability to meet job-site access requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a sheet metal apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience preferred.

• 3+ years of experience in sheet metal work, preferably in HVAC or mechanical contracting.

• Experience with duct fabrication, air handler installations, and system integrations.

• Familiarity with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations related to HVAC installations.

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification or licensure as a sheet metal worker or HVAC technician.

• Experience with welding, including MIG or TIG welding techniques.

• OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification.

• Experience working on large-scale commercial or industrial construction projects.

Position Level 1:

• Entry-level Sheet Metal Worker, responsible for assisting with the fabrication and installation of ductwork and HVAC components under the supervision of a senior sheet metal worker or foreman.

• Focuses on learning sheet metal techniques and safety protocols while gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of the role.

• Assists with basic tasks such as measuring, cutting, and assembling sheet metal components, as well as using tools and equipment under guidance.

Physical Requirements

• Use hand (s) and fingers to handle or feel objects or controls.
• Reach with hand (s) and arm (s).
• Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 50 pounds.
