Primis is partnered with a well-funded, early-stage AI startup in NYC building frontier legal infrastructure for private markets. Founded by a former Law partner, the platform extracts, structures, and reconciles corporate legal information into auditable outputs, and the team has a strong publishing track record in the space. Small team (~12 people), based onsite in Manhattan, real ownership, meaningful equity.

They're hiring a Backend Engineer to own the graph systems at the heart of the platform.

What you'll work on:

• Design, build, and scale the graph infrastructure and data pipelines that turn unstructured legal documents into structured, queryable, auditable legal ground truth
• Architect and implement the public APIs that internal services, agents, and customers rely on
• Build DAG based processing on Prefect for extracting, transforming, and reconciling legal data from source documents
• Partner with AI researchers and engineers to integrate agentic systems into production workflows
• Operate services on Kubernetes, covering deployment, observability, and performance

What we're looking for:

• Strong experience building production backend systems in Python, Go, Rust, or Zig
• Experience designing and operating data pipelines at scale
• Deep familiarity with graph databases like Neo4j, including modeling, querying, and running them in production
• Strong opinions on the design of public APIs: ergonomics, versioning, and evolvability
• Comfort operating services on Kubernetes
• Excellent judgment on system design tradeoffs and a bias toward shipping
• Bonus points for experience building a graph database (not just using one), designing DAG based orchestration systems (Prefect, Airflow, Dagster, Temporal), building agentic or LLM powered systems, building control systems or feedback driven coordination infrastructure, or working with Kafka or similar event streaming platforms
