Project Accountant

Position Summary

The Assistant to the Project Accountant supports the accounting and project teams by helping manage financial records, process invoices, track job costs, and maintain accurate project documentation. This role is essential to ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting for construction projects and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Accountant with day-to-day accounting functions related to active construction projects.
• Process accounts payable invoices and verify supporting documentation.
• Help track project costs, budgets, change orders, and contract billing.
• Maintain accurate records of subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, purchase orders, and vendor contracts.
• Support preparation of client billings, payment applications, and project financial reports.
• Reconcile job cost reports and assist in identifying discrepancies.
• Enter and update financial data in accounting and project management systems.
• Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and vendors regarding billing and payment matters.
• Assist with month-end closing tasks and audit preparation.
• Organize and maintain electronic and paper files for project accounting documentation.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, contract requirements, and construction accounting procedures.
• Provide general administrative support to the accounting and project teams as needed.
