DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL

Job Description and Duties

Deputy Attorneys General (DAGs) who are part of the Attorney General's Honors Program work in a Section within the California Department of Justice’s Civil, Criminal, or Public Rights Divisions, as part of a dynamic legal team committed to public service. Honors Program DAGs will have the opportunity to work on substantive legal matters of public interest and importance. They conduct legal and other research, and prepare a variety of legal documents, including briefs, memoranda, and legislative analyses, often under tight deadlines. They assist in special investigations and the preparation of cases before state and federal courts and administrative bodies. Honors Program DAGs also advise and represent clients, including state agencies, the California Attorney General, and other state officials and constitutional officers, on a vast array of legal matters. They will also receive on-the-job training, career development programming, and mentorship, in addition to connecting with the 2027 Honors Program cohort and gaining exposure to the work being done across various Sections and Divisions of the California Department of Justice. • Due to the advance recruitment of the Honors Program positions, applicants are not required to meet eligibility requirements/minimum qualifications to take the examination at this time. Applicants should select the "I have eligibility" option in order to continue applying for the position.

• Clearly indicate the Job Control ( JC-525353) and the title of the position in the "Examination or Job Title(s) For Which You Are Applying" section located on the first page of your State Application.

• A fingerprint check will be required.

• You do not have to take an exam before you apply for a job. However, you must complete and pass the exam to be eligible for hire.
