Controls Systems Team Leader

Johnson Controls supports customers across the Building Solutions North America HVAC and fire portfolio through local market teams and area support. In this role, you will help lead branch systems operations with a strong focus on customer outcomes, project execution, safety, and compliance.

Role Overview

Under general direction, the Controls Systems Team Leader manages a branch systems operation team consisting of system technicians and system designers. You will assign projects to lead systems specialists, allocate resources effectively, and provide coordination support on projects with higher contract complexity to help ensure work is delivered safely, ethically, on time, and within scope.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of system technicians and system designers in day-to-day branch operations.
• Assign projects to lead systems specialists and coordinate the resources needed to complete them efficiently.
• Provide site coordination support on higher-complexity projects, including subcontractor coordination, project administration, and conflict resolution.
• Review contract terms and conditions and help assess scope impacts from client bulletins, field directives, and scheduling changes.
• Support change order activity and assist in identifying opportunities for additional work.
• Assist with schedule of values development on projects that require detailed billing.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors in the community.
• Ensure work performed by Johnson Controls staff and subcontractors meets legal requirements and the highest ethical standards.
• Prepare and deliver clear performance expectations, reviews, and development plans for direct reports.
• Hire, retain, coach, and develop team members while supporting branch training initiatives.

• You will stay close to the work and remove obstacles for customers by coordinating resources, supporting lead systems specialists, and helping projects move forward without unnecessary delay.
• You will improve every day through candor and problem-solving by coaching teams, addressing issues early, and supporting practical solutions that keep work accurate, on time, within budget, and within scope.
• You will win as one team by partnering with system technicians, system designers, lead systems specialists, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to deliver consistent results.
• Use clear communication and sound judgment when translating technical information for non-technical stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively across branch operations to keep project execution aligned with safety, ethics, and customer expectations.

Qualifications

• Technical associate’s degree with six years of field experience, or eight years of equivalent related field and site coordination experience in the HVAC industry.
• Relevant hands-on experience in systems design and commissioning of digital HVAC controls systems.
• Ability to communicate technical material clearly to a non-technical audience.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Solid coaching and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of control theory and HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of project accounting, costing principles, and contracting.
• Ability to review and interpret contract terms and conditions and support site coordination activities on complex projects.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $104,000-$143,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
