Due to program requirements, this particular position needs to be filled by a person with a disabilityJob DescriptionUnder close supervision, the Maintenance Trades Helper assists one or more workers in the skilled maintenance trades by performing specific or general duties of lesser skill. The kind of work the helper is performs varies from trade to trade. Employees in this job class keep a worker supplied with materials and tools, clean work areas, machines, and equipment. This is an entry level position.Typical duties include:Performing a wide variety of clerical duties in support of department or site management and staffPerforming a variety of lesser skilled maintenance dutiesAssisting journeyman by supplying, lifting and holding materials or toolsPerforming unskilled tasks as directed by a journeymanMay perform specialized machine operationsPerforms other duties and special projects as assignedMinimum qualifications include:0 to 1 year of work experience, preferably in construction or maintenanceAbility to follow instructions on labels for proper and safe use of tools and equipmentAbility to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from customers and othersHuman relations skills to build effective working relationshipsBasic mathematical ability, ability to read and use measurementsFlexibility to adapt to changing work priorities; and fill-in during absences to maintain quality of serviceAbility to manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work prioritiesDemonstrated organizational, problem solving and common sense skillsPhysical requirements include:Ability to maneuver to and around equipmentAbility to stand and walkAbility to bend, stoop, kneel and reachAbility to lift boxes or equipment up to 50 poundsAbility to climb ladders or step stoolsWork environment includes:Work is performed at a customer's location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environmentMay require driving to and from worksite locationsEquipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facilityEmployees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heatDisclaimer: The above information on this description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
