Senior Mortgage Underwriter – Training & Development

Lake Forest, CA | 100% Onsite | Full-Time | $40–$50/hour DOE

Are you an experienced mortgage underwriter who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and helping other underwriters figure out the "why" behind the decision?

TheLender is looking for a Senior Mortgage Underwriter to join our Underwriter University team and help develop the next generation of underwriting talent.

This is NOT a production underwriting position. There is no production quota.

Instead, you'll use your real-world underwriting experience to:

• Train new and experienced underwriters
• Lead hands-on loan file review sessions
• Coach underwriters through complex credit, income, asset, and collateral scenarios
• Explain underwriting guidelines in a practical, easy-to-understand way
• Help build and improve our Underwriter University curriculum
• Create job aids, training materials, and assessments
• Provide ongoing coaching and support to underwriters after training

WHO WE WANT

We're looking for an experienced mortgage underwriter who knows underwriting AND enjoys helping other people learn it.

You may be a great fit if you are:

• A Senior Mortgage Underwriter ready to move out of production
• An underwriter who regularly mentors or trains newer underwriters
• The person coworkers come to when they have a difficult file
• A DE, SAR, LAPP, FHA, VA, Conventional, or Non-QM underwriting expert
• An underwriting lead or mentor who enjoys explaining guidelines
• Someone who has trained new hires or onboarded other underwriters
• An experienced underwriter interested in moving into training and development

You do NOT need to have held a formal "Trainer" or Learning & Development title. If you've spent years teaching, mentoring, coaching, or onboarding other underwriters, we want to talk to you.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of mortgage credit analysis and underwriting guidelines
• Experience with Conventional, FHA, VA and/or Non-QM underwriting
• Experience mentoring, coaching, training, or onboarding others
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Encompass or comparable LOS experience
• Ability to work 100% onsite in Lake Forest, CA

Formal training experience, curriculum development, or LMS experience is a plus — but not required.
