Help

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Performing repair and maintenance of dietetic equipment, including associated electrical and electronic systems.
• Diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment and support system problems, including microprocessor-controlled equipment, electronic scales, electronic beds, mattress controls, nurse call systems, electronic exam tables/chairs, surgical tables, patient lifts, medical/lab sterilizers, therapy equipment, and mechanical/electronic stretchers.
• Repairing and maintaining critical patient care and support systems, including medical and dental air compressors and vacuum pumps, circulating pumps, and hydraulic pump systems (packing, sleeves, bearings, seals, rods, rings, impellers); troubleshooting and repairing automatic doors, fire door closers, and roll-up doors and related hardware.
• Repairing and maintaining fire door operators/closers, automatic roll-up doors, and sensors, including diagnosing electric solenoids and transformers.
• Performing miscellaneous equipment repair such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, wax strippers, and electrical space savers, as well as mechanical/electronic repair of Kardveyor and Lektriever systems, including rollers, sprocket drive wheels, chains, and electric eye/safety switch circuits.
• Maintaining and repairing PLCs on medical and building equipment using a laptop, including testing analog and digital inputs/outputs on controllers.
• Operating a wide variety of machine tools and precision measuring/electrical test instruments (drill presses, grinders, hydraulic presses, dial calipers/indicators, volt/ohm/amp meters, capacitor and diode testers, Huntron tester, etc.).
• Performing electric and acetylene welding to accomplish repairs to items such as handrails and carts.

The position requires practical knowledge of electricity, electronics, and PLCs; the ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics; proficiency with complex measuring instruments and tools; and sound judgment in diagnosing and repairing complex medical support equipment. The incumbent also performs work involving multiple trades at the journeyman level (plumbing, steam fitting, sheet metal, welding, electrical, and electronics) and may oversee vendor service contracts for equipment such as SPS washers, OR tables, and specialty rental beds.

Physical Requirements : The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. May be ask to weld overhead or other unusual positions. The incumbent may work from ladders and scaffolding. When operating equipment, the worker may be under a great deal of strain from constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet, legs, and by the vibration and jerking of the equipment. The incumbent carries, lifts, and handles parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and may occasionally exceed 50 pounds.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
