This position begins the Revenue Cycle process by collecting accurate demographic and financial information to produce a clean claim necessary to receive timely reimbursement. In addition, this position provides exceptional support and customer service during encounters with patients, families, visitors, and OhioHealth Physicians and associates.
Responsibilities and duties include accurately identifying patients in the EMR system, obtaining and entering accurate patient demographic and financial information through a standard work process to complete registration while maintaining patient confidentiality and providing exceptional customer service. This role also involves performing registration functions in any of the Patient Access areas, using critical thinking skills to make decisions, resolve issues, and escalate concerns when they arise. Additionally, the position requires using various computer programs to enter and retrieve information, verifying insurance eligibility, securing and tracking insurance authorizations, transcribing ancillary orders, scheduling outpatients, generating patient estimates, collecting patient's out of pocket expenses and past balances, answering questions or concerns regarding insurance residuals and self-pay accounts, using knowledge of CPT codes to accurately select codes from clinical descriptions, generating appropriate regulatory documents and obtaining consent signatures, identifying and determining patient out of network acceptance into the organization, reviewing insurance information and speaking to patients regarding available financial aid, explaining billing procedures, hospital policies and providing appropriate literature and documentation, scanning required documents used for claim submission into patient's medical record, escorting or transporting patients in a safe and efficient manner to and from various destinations, assisting clinical staff in administrative duties as needed, complying with policies and procedures that are unique to each access area, assisting with training new associates, overseeing functions of reception desks and lobbies including cleanliness and order of lobbies and surrounding work areas, going to the Nursing Units to register or obtain consents, using multi-line phone system, making reminder phone calls to patients, processing offsite registrations, maintaining patient logs for statistical purposes, reviewing insurance information and determining need for referrals and/or financial counseling, educating patients on MyChart, including its activation, and based on care site, may also have responsibility for visitor management which includes credentialing visitors and providing wayfinding assistance to their destination. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED. Specialized knowledge required includes excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills, basic computer skills, and one to two years of previous experience in a medical office setting.
