Milling Machine Machinist 3PGS Worldwide is seeking a Milling Machine Machinist 3 in Palmdale, CA for a one year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This position will support the Tooling department and perform milling machine setup and machining operations to exacting tolerances. The role is onsite in Palmdale and requires U.S. citizenship.Required SkillsHigh School Diploma or GEDBlueprint reading3-, 4-, and 5-axis milling experienceMCAM programmingMeasurement and inspection experienceAbility to set up and operate plain, universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machinesAbility to perform own machine setups and determine sequence of operationsAbility to interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specificationsExperience using machinist hand tools and precision measuring instrumentsAbility to make standard shop computations and lay out stock for machiningCompletion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experiencePreferred Skills10+ years of experience operating CNC mills, including 5-axis machines, and lathes with live toolingExperience interpreting drawings, models, and material requirements to develop CNC programsAbility to independently set up machines and complete machining operations with minimal supervisionExperience performing in-process and pre-inspection quality checks prior to CMM inspectionExperience with true 5-axis gantry machines, including SNKWire EDM operations experienceWhat You'll DoSet up and operate milling machines to perform machining operations including compound angles and contours, boring compound angular holes, helical and spiral milling, serrating, and gear, spline, and keyway cuttingSelect, mount, and align specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised toolingPlan the sequence of operations, number of cuts, and setup methodsDetermine, set, and adjust speeds, feeds, and depth of cutInterpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specificationsUse precision measuring instruments and machinist hand toolsMeasure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points for machiningMonitor and verify quality in accordance with applicable control proceduresWork Schedule / Shift4x10 schedule, Monday through Thursday1-month rotations through 4/10 1st and 2nd shifts, Monday through Thursday3/10 1st shift only, Friday through Sunday
