Job Overview Respiratory Therapist – Central Vermont Medical Center Under the direction of the Director of Cardiology and Respiratory Services, the Respiratory Therapist provides services to inpatients and outpatients as directed by the medical staff. The therapist functions within the scope of practice of the Respiratory Therapy Department and follows hospital policies. They serve as a resource to nursing staff and physicians in the care of patients with respiratory problems, participate in quality management activities hospital‑wide and with the Respiratory Therapy Department, and assume leadership responsibilities at the request of the Director of Respiratory Therapy. Responsibilities Provide respiratory therapy services to inpatients and outpatients. Serve as a resource to nursing staff and physicians. Participate in quality management activities throughout the hospital and the Respiratory Therapy Department. Assume leadership responsibilities at the request of the Director of Respiratory Therapy. Education Graduate of an associate degree program from an accredited respiratory therapy education program. Must have successfully passed the Registry exam as a Registered Respiratory Therapy Technician (RTRT) as defined by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Certified Respiratory Technician who has graduated from an accredited program may be hired into the Registered Respiratory Therapist range with the expectation of passing the Registry exam within one year of hire. If not passed, the employee will be reclassified as a Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner. Must hold a current Respiratory Care Practitioner license issued by the state of Vermont (temporary license available). Experience 9 to 12 months on‑the‑job performance to become proficient. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 6 months of hire. Therapist Level Requirements Level 1 Therapist: 0–1 year experience, BLS and NRP. Level 2 Therapist: 1+ year experience, plus ACLS. Level 3 Therapist: 1+ year experience, plus ACLS, PALS and NRP, and registered with NBRC. Benefits External candidates eligible for a $10,000 sign‑on bonus.
