Grocery Store Assistant Manager

The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) at Gordon Food Service supports the Store Manager in leading daily operations, ensuring the store meets sales, quality, and customer service goals. Location: 6955 Garret Lane, Rockford, IL 61107 Store Hours: Monday to Saturday 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Sunday 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Benefits Healthcare benefits available on the first day. Responsibilities Assist with the management of all aspects of store operations, including customer service, store condition, and the selection, training, supervising, and performance management of Store Sales Associates. Assist in unloading merchandise from delivery trucks, organizing merchandise, and transferring items from stockroom to store. Collaborate with team members to ensure the store meets or exceeds merchandising standards for product quality, presentation, and visual marketing/merchandising. Keep up with reporting to support sales, earnings, and minimize shrink. Assume full management responsibility in the absence of the Store Manager. Qualifications Two (2) or more years of grocery or retail management experience. Hands‑on leadership experience in grocery retail (e.g., Produce, Deli/Bakery, or Meat/Seafood departments) is highly preferred but not required. Physical requirement: ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs, frequently lifting above shoulder height. Schedule availability: ability to work a flexible, full‑time schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent. Successfully pass pre‑employment checks, including a drug screen and criminal background check. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, per GFS policy.
