They are seeking an experienced finance leader who brings both strategic planning expertise and a sharp eye for the expense side of the business — someone who can identify cost drivers, challenge spend, and bring real discipline to how resources are deployed.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director of FP&A will serve as a key financial thought partner to senior leadership, owning the planning, forecasting, and analytical functions that keep the organization running with clarity and purpose. A critical component of this role is deep engagement on the expense side — analyzing cost trends, partnering with department heads to manage spend, and ensuring the organization has full visibility into where its resources are going and why. This is a high-visibility role that blends technical finance rigor with real strategic influence, ideal for someone who thrives in a mission-driven environment and wants their work to matter beyond the numbers.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

• Drive the annual budgeting cycle from kickoff through consolidation, working across departments to build a cohesive, accurate plan with particular focus on expense planning and cost accountability
• Own monthly and quarterly forecasting, continuously refining projections and surfacing meaningful variance insights — with a strong emphasis on expense trends and emerging cost pressures
• Lead expense analysis across the organization: track departmental spend, identify cost drivers, flag budget overruns, and partner with leadership to course-correct proactively
• Build and maintain dynamic financial models — scenario analyses, project cost models, and long-range planning tools — that equip leaders to make confident decisions
• Deliver polished, executive-ready financial reporting that translates complex data into clear narratives, including detailed expense reporting and cost performance dashboards
• Serve as a key partner to the Accounting team during month-end and year-end close, ensuring FP&A and accounting are fully aligned
• Identify and lead process improvement initiatives that sharpen the efficiency and impact of the finance function
• Mentor and develop at least one direct report, with the potential to grow and shape the broader FP&A team over time

WHAT YOU BRING

• Deep fluency in financial modeling, forecasting methodologies, and budget management
• Demonstrated strength on the expense side — cost analysis, spend management, operational expense review, and the ability to translate data into actionable cost controls
• Strong foundation in accounting principles — accruals, prepaids, debits and credits — and the ability to apply them accurately in a planning context
• Experience building expense reporting frameworks and working cross-functionally to drive cost discipline across an organization
• Experience presenting financial information, including detailed expense analysis, to executive and board-level audiences
• A natural collaborator who can build trust across departments while maintaining analytical rigor
• Prior experience managing or mentoring staff within a finance function
• Nonprofit or mission-driven organization experience is a plus, but not required
