Marina: View phone number on click.appcast.io Service Yard: View phone number on click.appcast.io Job Description The Marine Electrician will be responsible for testing, maintaining, repairing and installing marine electrical components primarily on AC / DC electrical systems in yachts and commercial vessels. Under general supervision, you will plan wire runs, pull wire, terminate wires at panels and electrically connect components. This position requires a thorough understanding of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles; as well as, installation standards and practices. Marine electricians routinely install and connect required equipment in accordance with provided work order specifications, references, drawings and standards. The marine electrician should be skilled at examining electrical system wiring circuits, equipment, motors and fixtures, performing tests using a multi-meter or other diagnostic equipment to determine the reason(s) for the fault. Ideally, this will include the technician providing recommendations to the department foreman on restoring equipment to normal operation. In this role, you will be expected to provide high levels of customer satisfaction while completing assigned work to meet departmental and other relevant standards. Successful candidates shall be well-skilled in the following areas at time of acceptance of employment Able to install boat cable on bulkheads with brackets and screws, using hand tools, pulling wires through cable trays to terminal strips in junction boxes, to circuit breakers, to voltage regulators and to distribution switch panels. Stripping insulation from wire ends and making terminal connections of all types, if any, using stripping pliers and swaging tools. Then, making the electrical connections to the intended device. Testing of electrical characteristics, for example, voltage, resistance, and phase angle, in circuits, using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation indicators. Troubleshooting electrical equipment and circuits using appropriate test equipment to detect and affect required maintenance, repairs, or replacement requirements. Conducting resistance measurements of electrical cables where necessary to determine condition and effecting repairs or replacements as required. Required Experience / Education Minimum 5 years of industry experience in electrical, ideally within the marine environment. Possess a thorough understanding of AC or DC circuit operation and theory. Skilled at troubleshooting, diagnostics and completing repairs for system malfunctions. An ability to utilize all functions of a multi-meter. Capable of testing circuits for voltage, continuity and amp draw. Understanding and ability to connect isolation transformers and galvanic isolators. Understanding of proper wire and circuit overcurrent protection sizing and where to reference these standards. Strong ability to be reliable and work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment. High school or general equivalency degree (GED) required. Advanced marine electrical coursework and/or ABYC certifications. Required Skills Ability to take directions and follow instructions. Ability to work a variety of assignments and locations on a daily basis. Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people. General Requirements Possesses basic hand tools, multimeter, stripper, crimper, mini-torch (Harry add tool essentials) necessary for the trade. Basic computer skills and the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. The ability to write condition found reports on boats, prepare estimates and plan projects through to completion is highly desired. Must have an excellent work ethic and attitude. Follow prescribed safety rules and OSHA regulations while maintaining a safe, clean work area. Must possess the ability to periodically board vessels in and out of the water, work steadily in confined spaces, climb, lift and move batteries, tools and supplies as necessary. Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employers. Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
