Manufacturing Technician

Primary Functions:

• Reads blueprints/sketches to produce required part specifications.
• Works with other shop personnel in supporting the manufacturing of production parts.
• Analyzes and solves fixture and tooling problems in manufacturing areas.
• Riveting and de-riveting, installation and removal of insulation.
• Operates and adjusts manual machining equipment (Lathe, Bridgeport mill, Drill press) according to guidelines and in a safe manner.
• Performs set ups and moderate maintenance on equipment. Troubleshoots equipment when required.
• Maintains proper coolant and oil levels of machines.
• Utilizes specified gauges to ensure part meets stated tolerances.
• Participates in continuous improvement projects on the shop floor including daily 5S.
• Assists in training new employees.

Basic Qualification:

• H.S. Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience in manufacturing processes.
• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
• No relocation benefit is offered for this position. Only candidates residing within the immediate Beltsville area (50 miles) will be considered for this position.

Position Criteria:

• Blueprint reading, including knowledge of GD+T
• Working knowledge of heat treating and metallurgical principles
• Working knowledge of steel types and which are best in different plant applications.
• Understands metal cutting, inserts, feeds, speeds, etc.
• Understands Statistical Process Control
• Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds on a daily basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Tool and Die experience
• Experience in custom fabrication

Physical/Environmental Demands:

• All the time: Working with cutting, assembly machinery as stated above. Full use of both hands. Walking. Good finger dexterity. Good vision. Inside work Most of the time: Lifting 0-35 pounds approximately 3 times per day. Some of the time: Pushing and moving with assistance 50+ pounds approximately 2 times per week. Contact with dust or fumes. Climbing ladders & stairs. Standing. Bending or stooping. Rarely: Reaching above shoulder level. Driving automotive equipment. Never: Lifting 50+ pounds
