About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: Current nursing license required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and NIH preferred Must-Have: - Medical-Surgical and Telemetry experience required - Previous experience in managing acutely ill medical-surgical and orthopedic patients Description: The role involves providing care to acutely ill medical-surgical and orthopedic patients. The patient diagnoses include acute and chronic respiratory illnesses, post-operative general surgery, post-operative general gynecological surgery, and post-operative total knee and hip replacements. The nurse will also manage conditions such as acute and chronic pain, active gastrointestinal bleeding, congestive heart failure/pulmonary edema, diabetes (hyper and hypoglycemic conditions), renal failure, and drug overdose. Additionally, the nurse will care for patients with a Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) score below 7, those at risk of suicide, and patients experiencing arrhythmias or uncontrolled or new onset seizures. Telemetry monitoring is required, both on the unit and remotely. Heparin infusions may be administered as well as other IV medications in the department. The nurse will be responsible for accessing and managing ports, administering blood products, and interpreting dysrhythmias. Knowledge of isolation precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) is necessary. The position requires flexibility with scheduling, including weekends and holidays. There are additional requirements for passing an EKG exam as part of compliance. Travel nurses are subject to float between facilities if needed. A commitment to completing compliance requirements ahead of schedule is essential. This position supports an interdisciplinary team including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services, among others.
