Electronic Technician

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Electronic Technician (Facilities Management Division). THIS JOB ANNOUNCEMENT WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED AND MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME. The Electronics Technician responsibilities include performing installation, maintenance and improvement of various electronic equipment and machinery. Troubleshoots computers, machinery, flow measuring devices, sensors, analog/digital controllers, programmable controllers, transmitters and receivers, detecting devices, and other alternating and direct current devices. Requires specialized knowledge of various Building Automation systems and related computer systems including chiller controls, air handler control units, variable air volume controls, etc. Knowledgeable of HVAC Building Automation System software and networking hardware. Supervises improvement, repair and replacement of parts to convert obsolete equipment and machinery to conform to current control loop design and construction standards. Uses computerized maintenance management software to document statuses of maintenance work orders. General Description Performs skilled technical work in the installation, adjustment, maintenance, and modification of electronic equipment. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Requires three (3) years of working with electronics and low and high voltage or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses Possess and maintain valid Florida Class "E" Driver's License for duration of assignment. Preferences * Graduation from an accredited Electronics or HVAC vocational school * Associates Degree or higher in Electronics or closely related field * LEED Green Associate * At least three (3) years hands on Building Automation Experience * At least three (3) years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting air conditioning and refrigeration systems * At least three (3) years of experience using Desigo and Trane Tracer BAS Software * At least three (3) years of experience using Johnson Controls Metasys Software * At least three (3) years of experience using MS Excel SCOPE OF WORK Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. Supervises subordinates in the use of a variety of instrumentation and electronic equipment including electronic tests, pneumatic/hydraulic testers, computers, master controllers, shop tools, and other specialized devices. Installs, adjusts, and maintains alternating and direct current devices, sensors, recorders, analog/digital parameter transmitters and receivers; installs and tests special equipment such as antennae, frequency monitors, microphones, cable and electrical interference suppressors. Installs, adjusts, and maintains medium high and ultra-high frequency alternating and direct current radio receivers, transmitters, and auxiliaries according to diagrams, drawings and sketches. Supervises and participates in the installation, adjustment, repair, and maintenance of flow loop system, alternating and direct current circuitry with solid state electronic micro circuitry, pneumatic control systems, and related equipment. Supervises and participates in on-site maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting work. Assigns work to subordinate technicians, participates in the more difficult phases of installation, adjustment, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computers, flow measuring devices, sensors, analog/digital controllers, programmable controllers, transmitters and receivers, detecting devices, and other alternating and direct current devices. Supervises complete overhaul, including adjusting, repairing, and replacing parts and converting obsolete equipment to conform to present control loop design and construction standards. Makes recommendations to superiors for the improvement of instrumentation, industrial electronic/electrical, pneumatic/mechanical control devices and digital frequency shift telemetry. Estimates time and materials required for proposed jobs maintains records and submits various reports requisitions supplies and equipment; prepares and maintains operating and special reports as required by superior. WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical Demands Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment) Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to electrical shocks; heights.
