Job Description

The Non-Registered (NR) Radiologic Technologist provides imaging support across Diagnostic Imaging, CT, and MRI departments. This position reports to the Lead Technologist, Radiology Associate Director/Manager, and Radiology Director. Working under the direct and indirect supervision of a registered technologist or radiologist, this position assists in performing a variety of general diagnostic imaging procedures, including fluoroscopic examinations. The NR Radiologic Technologist supports imaging services in multiple care settings, including the Emergency Department, Surgery, and portable/bedside environments. This role ensures safe, accurate, and timely imaging while maintaining patient comfort, adhering to established protocols, and collaborating with the radiology team to deliver high-quality diagnostic services. The NR Radiologic Technologist will take call as needed to support departmental needs and help provide departmental coverage 24 hours/7 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam room and equipment to conduct examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety of the patient during the examination.
  • Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information.
  • Ensure that the examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets the standard of "medical necessity."
  • Evaluate any contraindications, insufficient patient preparation, and the patient's inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures.
  • Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand. Conduct patient clinical assessment and perform the diagnostic medical examination ordered by the provider in accordance with professional and facility protocols.
  • Apply independent, professional, ethical judgement, and critical thinking to safely perform diagnostic procedures. To adhere to accepted professional and ethical standards.
  • Review examination images and perform post processing as needed.
  • Assist invasive procedures under the supervising physician.
  • Perform quality control procedures to ensure imaging equipment operates at optimal levels.
  • Exercise responsibility to ensure that the imaging equipment is functioning accurately.
  • Notify physician of any incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
  • H.S. Diploma - Required
  • Currently attending a radiology program. - Required

Work Experience

Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Technologist (R.T.) - (Registered) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within 6 months post graduation from Radiology program - Required within 180 Days
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required Upon Hire
Travel Requirements
  • Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required

Skills and Abilities

Essential Technical/Motor Skills
  • Inputting data, calibrating equipment, answering telephone, speaking clearly, manipulating small items, fine motor skills, knowledge of body mechanics and CPR.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with patients, staff, visitors, physicians, etc.
  • Must work well as a team member.
Essential Physical Requirements
  • Moving equipment, pushing, pulling, lifting 35 lbs., walking, restraining, standing, and kneeling.
Essential Mental Abilities
  • Manipulate numbers, explain procedures, evaluate patient's condition and take immediate action, calculating exposure factors.
Essential Sensory Requirements
  • Visual skills to read equipment settings, hear audio signals, reading computer screens.
Exposure to Hazards
  • Blood, body fluids, needle sticks, radiation and hazardous materials.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Caregiver must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in all age groups.
